Hi Mrs Mitchell I really like your blog. I am homeschooling my son, and I am researching to find the standard common core/or curriculum for 1st graders for all subject areas such as mathematics, science, writing, reading, spelling, language arts, history, and arts. I would like to know if you would recommend me or suggest me books I may purchase to base the lessons. Or even websites would be quite helpful.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks

Fabiana,
I am just diving into the new common core standards as well. I'm finding that I can still use a lot of the same literature that I have always used. I'm not sure the age of you son but I love books by Kevin Henkes, Laura Numeroff, Jan Brett, and Eileen Christelow. The boys in my classroom love to learn about animials and non-fiction topics. I would draw on your sons interest. If there is something he wants to learn more about, go to the library and get fiction and non-fiction books on that topic. When I first started teaching that is what I did. The library was a huge source for me. I developed my shark unit from the interest my boys had on that topic. Teachers pay teachers is an excellent resource. There are so many free items there as well! Hope this helps. Good luck. Megan
