Back to School Getting to Know you Game and Activities

Ready or not, it’s back to school time. The first month of school I love to play getting to know you games. I wanted to change things up a bit so I made a new game for this school year.

This board game is perfect for the beginning of the school year. It allows children to get to know one another by sharing a favorite when they land on a picture.  You can switch up the players and play all week long with new friends! Games are great for building relationships, boosting language skills, teaching the value of teamwork and learning how to be a good loser. You can grab this game here!

Another one of my favorite things to begin is Guided Reading with a Purpose (GRP).  We start week 1 right after the first week of school. GRP is a reading program I developed to help my students build their listening comprehension, vocabulary, and truly develop a love of literature. Each day I read a new story to the children and we have a focus skill for the week. The skills build off of one another and the children become comprehension experts.

During Week 1, we read stories that focus on school Rules and Routines. Our focus skills are characters and setting. We read so many amazing books and learn in such a fun way. During this week, we read Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse, Mean Jean the Recess Queen, Chrysanthemum, David Goes to School, & Miss Nelson is Missing.

During the second week, we focus on Retelling the beginning, middle, and end. Our theme for the week is Friendship. During this week we learn about the qualities of a good friend, how we can help one another, and read some truly amazing books too. This week features Chester’s Way, Do Unto Otters, Nugget and Fang, Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun, and Peanut Butter and Cupcake.

Since these goodies are completed in August for me, I decided to bundle them to offer you the best savings. I have an entire year of these bundled by month and one for the WHOLE YEAR.  GRP has been a game changer in my first grade room and I know your students will love it too.

  • A lot of people are searching for Wordfeud Cheats. For sure, in those who play the English variant of Wordfeud you don't need to do long to search for Cheats which help you to make up words using Wordfeud. There are also apps available to play the Dutch version. You can receive suggestions for possible words after entering your own words and letters that appear on the screen.wordfeud cheat app
