🌭🐶 A dachshund dressed like a HOT DOG for Halloween?! 😂🎃

The Hallo-Wiener by Dav Pilkey has always been one of my favorite October read-alouds! It’s silly enough to have your students giggling, but underneath all that Halloween fun is such a sweet story about kindness, courage, friendship, and accepting others for who they are. ❤️

Poor Oscar gets teased by the other dogs—especially when his mom surprises him with a hot dog costume for Halloween! But when his friends find themselves in trouble, it’s Oscar who steps up and saves the day. 🌭🐶

My The Hallo-Wiener Book Companion is packed with differentiated comprehension activities so you can use this one favorite read-aloud to practice SO many skills!

There are also plenty of writing, vocabulary, and word work activities. Students can brainstorm Halloween costumes, retell the story, write their own narrative, practice ABC order and syllables, make words, explore synonyms, and learn new vocabulary.

🎃🟧 A square pumpkin in a patch full of round pumpkins?! That’s exactly what makes Spookley so special! ❤️

Spookley the Square Pumpkin is such a sweet Halloween read-aloud for teaching students that being different can be something wonderful. It’s one of my favorite stories to pair with pumpkins because there are SO many reading, writing, math, and SEL connections you can make!

There are also plenty of writing, vocabulary, and word work activities. Students can describe Spookley, design and describe their own uniquely shaped pumpkin, retell the story, share their opinion, practice rhyming, syllables, ABC order, making words, and more. ✏️📚

And because SHAPES play such an important part in this story, I’ve included lots of 2D shape math fun, too! Students can complete shape sorts and puzzles, play shape games, survey and graph, and more. 🔺🟧🔵

Of course, my favorite part might be the Spookley Shape Craft! Students can choose from 10 different options to create their own unique pumpkin. Imagine an entire bulletin board filled with pumpkins that are all a little different! 🎃❤️

This is such a fun story for combining reading comprehension, math, writing, pumpkins, Halloween, and conversations about celebrating our differences all in one!

🎃 These October Halloween Comparing Numbers Task C

🎃 These October Halloween Comparing Numbers Task Cards are a fun way for your first graders to practice comparing two-digit numbers using greater than, less than, and equal to!

Students look at the two numbers on each card, compare their values, and determine which symbol belongs between them: > < or =. Then they record the correct answer on their recording sheet. With 30 different task cards, students get plenty of practice strengthening their number sense and understanding of place value.

These are perfect for morning tubs, math centers, small groups, fast finishers, Scoot, or a movement break. Clip the cards around the classroom and let students move from problem to problem while practicing their math skills. You can also use them as a quick assessment to see who has mastered comparing two-digit numbers.
Want to add a hands-on element? Give students base ten blocks and let them build each number before deciding which is greater. This is a great option for students who still need a concrete model!

The cards come 4 per page in both color and black and white and include a recording sheet and answer key. Directions are also included if you'd like to print the cards smaller or larger.
