Every year, during the first week of school, I kee Every year, during the first week of school, I keep my literacy centers simple on purpose. ❤️ Instead of introducing a bunch of new activities, I teach 5 staple word work centers that we'll use all year long. The activities stay the same...only the words change! That gives my students the chance to really learn the routines, expectations, and how to work independently before we start adding more challenging skills. One of my favorite ways to do this is with student names! Names are the very first words children can read, write, and recognize, so they're the perfect way to introduce vowels, consonants, sorting, graphing, and word work while also helping everyone get to know each other.
