One of my favorite Shark Week activities was figur One of my favorite Shark Week activities was figuring out how many first graders it takes to make a whale shark. After reading Sharks by Gail Gibbons, we would head into the hallway and line up feet to feet to measure the length of a whale shark. Talk about a hands on experience. It really helps students understand just how big these amazing animals are.

Students always love learning about sharks, and Sharks by Gail Gibbons is a wonderful nonfiction book to use while teaching informational text standards and reading comprehension skills.

This mini unit is part of my Shark Week Bundle and focuses on learning about different types of sharks while practicing nonfiction reading skills. Students will explore shark facts, work on opinion writing, learn about nonfiction text features, and complete a fun class shark graphing activity.
To wrap it all up, students can create an adorable hammerhead shark craft.

Comment shark or week for the link.
