🦇🦉 BATS vs. OWLS… how are they alike and how are t 🦇🦉 BATS vs. OWLS… how are they alike and how are they different? This was always SO much fun with my first graders! ❤️ This nonfiction compare & contrast unit gives students the chance to become experts on bats and owls while practicing important reading comprehension skills. We start by reading the included Bats & Owls nonfiction book and mini reader to learn all about both animals. Then students dig into the facts as they practice comparing and contrasting, text evidence, nonfiction text features, vocabulary, sorting, writing, graphing, and more! 📚 And one of my favorite parts is the final group project! Students work together to show what they know about bats and owls, create a project, and then share their learning with their classmates. It’s such a great way to add collaboration and speaking & listening into your reading block! 🙌 Of course, we have to add a little crafting, too! Students can create adorable bat and owl paper toppers to display with their writing. 🦇🦉 This unit is part of my Reading Comprehension with a Purpose Owl Week and my YEAR-LONG Reading Comprehension with a Purpose curriculum.
